Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Todd Herremans has paid a hefty price to be a member of the team.
Philly.com reported Wednesday that federal prosecutors accused a parking lot attendant who watches over cars of the Eagles staff and players of stealing more than $225,000 over a four-year period from the Eagles' nine-year veteran.
Robert Von Ryan, a 37-year-old resident of Philadelphia, was charged with bank fraud, according to the report. Federal prosecutors said that Von Ryan entered a vehicle identified as "T.H." and took documents containing the player's checking account number.
A team spokesman confirmed to Philly.com that Herremans was the victim. The lot that the attendant oversaw was the lot at the team's hotel in Philadelphia. The Eagles stay at a local hotel the night before home games, a normal practice by NFL teams.
Von Ryan was a subcontractor and not employed by the Eagles, the spokesman said.
Von Ryan used the number to transfer $225,034.52 from Herremans's checking account to his own, U.S. attorney Zane David Memeger told Philly.com. The transfers took place from 2009-2012.
If he is convicted of the bank fraud charge, Von Ryan faces a possible prison sentence of 30 years and a fine of $1 million.
According to NJ.com, a team spokesman confirmed that Herremans has since recovered all of the money stolen from him.
Herremans has played his entire career with the Eagles since being drafted in 2005 and called getting drafted by the Eagles his favorite sports moment.
Herremans also runs Herremans Foundation, which helps provide resources for various charitable organizations.
