Lindsey Vonn has decided to skip this weekend's season-opening ski race in Australia, as she continues to battle back from major knee surgery.

The girlfriend of the world's top-ranked golfer Tiger Woods, who has been training over the last month on the glacier in Soelden, officially made her announcement on Wednesday. Vonn penciled her return to the slopes for Nov. 29-Dec. 1 in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

"While I physically feel great, I have decided to not race this weekend and instead will focus on returning in Beaver Creek," Vonn told the Associated Press. "I am confident the extra month of training will ultimately put me in the best position to have a successful season."

Vonn shredded her anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in a crash at the world championships in Schladming last February. The Olympic downhill champion and four-time overall World Cup winner hopes to be back in top form for the Sochi Olympics in February.

When she hasn't been spending time working on her rehab, Vonn has been at Woods' side as he's competed across the globe. The two have now been dating for nearly a year and went public with their relationship last March by attending a high-profile New York City charity event together.

It's the longest relationship Woods has had since infamously divorcing from his wife Elin Nordegren amid widespread allegations he had engaged in affairs with several women.

Vonn recently told the media Woods has helped her in learning how to deal with public pressure of being a world-famous athlete.

"He understands pressure and he understands, obviously, competing at an extremely high level... it's nice to talk to him about it and we can relate to each other's lives so well," she said. "So, I think that's one of the reasons why we work."
