Lamar Odom says he was not barred from Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's recent engagement announcement, and in fact was personally invited to the bash by wife Khloe Kardashian's oldest sister Kourtney.
Odom told TMZ he had "something personal" to do that night and that's why he wasn't at the engagement. In a spontaneous interview, Odom also seemed to suggest his once close relationship with Kobe Bryant could bode well for him in terms of jumpstarting his NBA career and specifically having yet another shot with the Los Angeles Lakers.
"I can play a basketball game right now and I can probably play well," Odom told the website.
It's a future few would have predicted for the 33-year-old NBA vet just a few short weeks ago, when Odom seemed in the throes of a "hardcore" drug addiction that one self-described "dealer to the stars" told TMZ had him spending upwards of $800 a day on crack and other drugs.
Odom has claimed to be clean over the last several weeks and TMZ reports he looks better now than he has in any recent memory. So confident does Odom seem in his rehab efforts and his return to playing shape he even challenged TMZ with the boast of "do you wanna see me with my shirt off?"
TMZ adds Odom also appears to have cut off many of the bad influences who are believed to have exacerbated all his hard times. And for the first time in months, the husband of reality TV star Kardashian is no longer being dogged by allegations of infidelities.
Odom still faces an open court case on a DUI charge that could mean jail time.
