Protein drink maker Muscle Milk has donated some 4,600 bottles of its energy drinks to the Grambling football program, according to USA Today.
The Grambling football team boycotted it's game against rival Jackson State last Saturday after a flood of problems related to the program became public, including the fact players were being forced to ration their supply of protein drinks and even occasionally pay for them out of their own pockets.
Grambling players voted to end their boycott on Monday and hours later Muscle Milk announced its pledge.
The folks at Muscle Milk heard about the situation at Grambling and were quick to help out. Seven games into the 2013 season, Grambling is now on its third coach of the year after Doug Williams was fired after just two games and his replacement, George Ragsdale, was ousted and reassigned within the athletic department following a player-led revolt.
Dennis "Dirt" Winston is the coach now, a man who has the respect of the players, according to USA Today. The report says the disgruntled players plan on playing hard for Winston to turn around this disastrous season. Grambling has lost 18 games in a row to NCAA sanctioned programs.
Even given their praise of Winston, players "consulted" with the legendary Williams before ultimately returning to the gridiron. "I told them go out there and play football," Williams told USA Today. "I'm proud of them boys. They took a stance."
