What happens when you potentially have to pay Kirk Cousins way more than he’s actually worth?
Cap casualties.
Kirk Cousins Leads 2016 NFL Free Agent Class
Below are three players that Washington -- whether the team wants to or not -- should sever ties with in 2016.

DeSean Jackson
The other alternative here is Pierre Garcon, but releasing DeSean Jackson makes sense both on and off the field.
The always-outspoken WR is due $9.25 million in 2016, but only $2.5 million is in dead cap. Admittedly, releasing Garcon would save Washington more -- $8 million to be exact -- but he proved to be more efficient in 2015. Receptions, receiving yards and TDs all went in Garcon’s favor.
It’s bad enough Washington is going to overpay for Cousins, there’s no need to overpay for Jackson.

Andre Roberts
Unlike Jackson, Andre Roberts is actual dead weight.
After signing a four-year, $16 million deal in 2014, Roberts has just 588 yards and two TDs. He was placed on the injured reserve list in December with a knee injury.
There’s $3 million to be saved by releasing him.
Robert Griffin III
This is simply a foregone conclusion. Even Robert Griffin III knows that.
