NASCAR Talladega Fan Death: Fan Found Dead While Camping At Sprint Cup

A Tennessee man camping out in Talladega Superspeedway this past weekend for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race was found dead from what authorities believe was a carbon monoxide leak, according to reports.

According to Sporting News, Sheriff Jimmy Kilgore said that friends of the man and his wife found the couple unresponsive inside their mobile home Saturday afternoon at Superspeedway in Talladega, which led to them calling for help.

The site reports that according to Deputy Coroner Larry Seals, the couple was likely using a gas stove for heat and there was a problem with the generator's exhaust system. The man, whose identity has yet to be released, was found dead inside the motor home and his wife was taken to the hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

Seals believes that due to the problem with the exhaust system, it led to a carbon monoxide leak that killed the man and led to the woman having to go to the hospital. There have been no reported updates on the man's wife.

Sporting News reports that other fans have died while camping out near that track due to carbon monoxide poisoning as well, and the man's death is unfortunately not the first casualty to take place at the track. In early May, according to the site, a Georgia man accidentally drowned at a creek near the track.
