Gennady Golovkin Next Fight: Miffed Kell Brook Eyes Bout With Gennady Golovkin [VIDEO]

IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook was hoping to finally book a fight with countryman Amir Khan this June but all that has gone down the drain.

Both camps were in negotiations for a potential mega fight at Wembley Stadium but the surprise announcement pitting the southpaw against WBC middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez snuffed up all hopes of possibly seeing that fight happen.

Brook and manager Eddie Hearn were shocked of the development, something that caught them off-guard. Both believed that a fight would be imminent, especially with Brook agreeing to be on the lower end of the purse split.

Obviously miffed at Khan’s move, Hearn reveals via IFL.TV that Brook wanted to do something to upstage his countryman.

‘El Dinamita’ Plans Last Two Fights This Year

And the plan was to have Hearn setup a possible clash with Gennady Golovkin, but at a catchweight of 155 lbs. Hearn didn’t take it seriously at first until Brook stressed he was serious.

The problem with that is that if a fight between Golovkin and Brook is to take place, the best booking could be by the end of the year.

Brook is set to face Kevin Bizier this March while Golovkin will be making a mandatory defense against Dominic Wade this April.

There is also that looming mandatory WBC fight between Alvarez and Golovkin which could further delay a possible Brook vs. Golovkin showdown.

Against Golovkin, Brook may find the going a bit rough. Golovkin is undefeated and has won most of his fights via knockout, 31 of 34 to be exact. Though Brook is an impressive fighter, his ability to matchup with Triple G (power-wise) may not offer comforting odds.

Other than Golovkin, Hearn mentions other possible opponents that Brook may face next after Bizier.

The list includes Miguel Cotto, Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia which hints that Brook may have to do some traveling to land those big name fights as Hearn mentions on Boxingscene.com.
