It should come as no surprise that Colin Kaepernick wants out of San Francisco. His possible preferred destination, however, may raise some eyebrows.

The disgruntled 49ers quarterback is said to want to continue his NFL career on the East Coast with the Jets, according to The New York Daily News.

Chip Kelly, Jed York Already At Odds Over Colin Kaepernick

"The Daily News has learned that embattled 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wants out of San Francisco after a forgettable 2015 that included on-field struggles that resulted in a benching midway through the season and a coaching change after it. The Jets are his preferred destination, according to sourcesm" writes Manish Mehta.

"The Jets are aware and intrigued by Kaepernick's desire to play for them, but are still in the early stages of their offseason planning and evaluation, according to sources. They're also deathly afraid of tampering (see: Darrelle Revis situation, circa 2015)."

Kaepernick's career is at a crossroads in San Francisco. His play has regressed dramatically the last two seasons, and the 49ers fired Jim Harbaugh, the man responsible for his initial ascension in 2014.

He apparently played hurt in 2015 and subsequently was benched halfway through the season by coach Jim Tomsula, who was fired at the end of the year.

49ers management, which has been accused of disparaging Kaepernick, hired Chip Kelly, with reports indicating that part of the decision included trying to fix Kaepernick.

The Jets had their playoff fate in their own hands in 2016 but lost the season finale to the Bills that extinguished their playoff hopes despite a 10-6 record. New York has a dynamic wide receiver duo in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

But Kaepernick didn't fare well under the media glare in 2014 when his play began to suffer. He was a bit more media-friendly in 2015. But if he thought the San Francisco media was tough, he's going to have a rude awakening in New York if he continues to struggle.

Objectively speaking, Kelly seems to be the best option to revive Kaepernick's career. But his decision may be extremely personal, based on his relationship with 49ers executives.
