No matter what the Kings intended, star center DeMarcus Cousins likely saved them from a nasty public relations gaffe. Cousins had a hand in cancelling a T-shirt giveaway Monday night in which fans would receive T-shirts with a monkey on them. The problem is that Feb. 1 is the beginning of Black History Month.
Milwaukee Bucks analyst Marques Johnson described the situation he walked into on social media. "I walk into the building and DeMarcus Cousins calls me over to an animated discussion he's having with Kings operations people. He ask me, 'Olskool, what you think about this T Shirt? Told him a little insensitive on 1st day of Black History Month'. They pulled the shirts..."

Kings president Chris Granger explained the mishap. "In an effort to celebrate Chinese New Year, we had some concerns about the T-shirt giveaway, so we pulled them all before the doors opened. Certainly we don't want to offend anybody, and we acted as soon as we heard the concern."
The prescient action taken by Cousins adds to his twisting, tumultuous run in Sacramento. Cousins has had plenty of petulant moments in his five-plus NBA seasons, as evidenced by being in the top 10 in technical fouls every year he’s been a pro, and leading the league in 2013-14 season. But he’s also been a monstrous producer on the floor, averaging a double-double in four full seasons, and currently averaging 27 points.

Cousins has been a constant source of trade rumors, but the latest chatter is that Kings GM Vlade Divac is not entertaining any offers for Cousins.
