Calvin Johnson, the no. 2 overall pick in the 2007 Draft, is leaning toward retiring at the age of 30.

Aside from having one of the coolest nicknames in NFL history (Megatron), Johnson could go down as one of the greatest wide receivers the game has ever seen. But is he in league with the likes of Jerry Rice and Randy Moss? Let’s see.
Megatron Could've Saved The Lions From Aaron Rodgers' Hail Mary
Here’s the quick rundown of Johnson’s major statistics over his nine seasons: 135 games, 731 receptions, 11,619 yards, 83 touchdowns, 5.4 receptions per game, 86.1 yards per game. Johnson is also the NFL’s single-season leader in receiving yards, setting the mark in 2012 when he amassed 1,964 yards.
Johnson has had a number of historical milestones. Ready? His 122 receptions in 2012 were good for the seventh-best mark ever, he racked up 1,681 yards in 2011, good for 11th all-time, and in that season he scored 16 touchdowns, which was the 14th-most of all-time.
This Is The Woman Calvin Johnson Is Retiring To
On the career leaderboards Johnson ranks 27th all-time in receiving yards, 43rd in receptions (731), and 22nd in receiving touchdowns (83). That’s impressive production from a player who just turned 30, and has played for fewer than 10 seasons. Here is how Johnson’s first nine years stack up to other greats.

Clearly, despite lacking some of the raw numbers to catch up to his all-time peers, he belongs in the conversation of the greatest ever, and is already near the top. In his first nine years he had more receptions than Jerry Rice, more yards than Marvin Harrison, and more yards per game than Randy Moss.
If he does call it quits now, he’s a shoo-in Hall of Famer.
