The 2016 WWE Royal Rumble didn’t exactly get thumbs up for everyone with Triple H coming out as the winner for the second time in his career. He won his first Royal Rumble back in 2002.

Now everyone believes that the recent Royal Rumble results were done more to address storylines, particularly the case of Roman Reigns. The Big Dog has not exactly turned out to be the new face the fans had wanted, so the Triple H win is seen more of another helping hand to fix it.

Braun Strowman Could Join Dubious List If He Faces Undertaker At 'WrestleMania'

Unless there are surprises in store for WWE Fastlane, which goes live on Feb. 21, the belief is that it will be a Triple H vs. Roman Reigns showdown at WrestleMania 32.

Should that be the case, the likely outcome would see Reigns overcome "The Game" to win the belt for a third time.

Triple H Has Plenty Of Options For 'Fastlane' Opponent

Aside from that, the past five WWE Royal Rumble Match winners followed an interesting trend. Sheamus (2012) and John Cena (2013) won the Rumble and ended up as WWE champions at WrestleMania.

Come 2014, Batista won the battle royal, but came up short in a triple threat match involving Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan, who won the gold.

Last year, Reigns won the controversial 2015 edition, but fell short because Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract as the Big Dog was battling with Brock Lesnar.

The last few years have proven that swerves and changes in booking direction can always come around WrestleMania season.

Triple H is almost certain to lose, but don’t discount the possibility of the WWE making some tweaks especially if fan reception doesn’t improve on Reigns.

Above are the past five Royal Rumble Match winners.
