Manny Pacquiao is fighting Timothy Bradley on April 9, but instead of being captured in the gym, photos are floating around of the “Pacman” hooping it up in weird, Warriors-inspired jerseys with his face on them.

That sure seems like a strange way to spend time when you have a fight vs. a respected world champion coming up in a few months, but don’t laugh at Pacquiao. Basketball is a big part of his life, and the last person who made the mistake of commenting on it paid the price.

Pacquiao Should Have Handpicked An Opponent Not Named Tim Bradley

One month before fighting Chris Algieri in Oct. 2014, Pacquiao made his debut for Kia Sorrento, a club for which he serves as a player-coach in the Philippine Basketball Association. Pacquiao took mild heat for risking an injury, and Algieri responded negatively to Pacquiao playing in a pro game.

"I don't know if it's arrogance or just silly and stupid," Algieri said. "During the press tour, I actually got on a horse at one point. As soon as I got up there, I was like, 'This is a bad idea. This is a bad idea because I'm getting paid after the fight.'”

Pacquiao Comments On Miss Universe Flap

Bad move, Algieri.

Pacquiao did not get hurt during the game, and on fight night he routed Algieri, knocking him down six times, and creating one of the most hilarious foot-in-mouth situations in boxing history. Have a listen to Algieri’s former trainer Tim Lane.

Basketball is not a bad way for Pacquiao to get in his cardio, and it’s likely less strenuous on his surgically repaired shoulder than intense training in the gym. He also has several more weeks before it’s time to ramp up training, so for now it’s a fine way to keep in shape.
