Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is boxing’s most feared fighter, and his plan to become a superstar has been slowed by big names who refuse to fight him. So far, Golovkin’s plan to combat that seems to be conquering the world.
He’s become a huge draw in the United States despite debuting stateside in 2012. He sells out arenas from New York to Los Angeles, and fights regularly in Monte Carlo, Monaco. His next step is to invade the U.K., a boxing hotbed, where the likes of Carl Froch have fought in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler, who is hoping to land a super fight vs. Canelo Alvarez in the fall, is also trying to line up a fight across the pond against British stars, per Boxing Scene.

If Golovkin can’t achieve fame quickly, he can gain respect. He has remained active as a champion, maintained a knockout streak that has reached 21 fights, and is now willing to take road fights in foreign countries.
Loeffler brought up Billy Joe Saunders, the undefeated WBO middleweight champion, and Chris Eubank Jr., a once-beaten (by Saunders, split decision) but exciting 26-year-old. Loeffler said Saunders makes more sense because of Golovkin’s stated desire to unify the middleweight titles, but that Eubank is potentially more intriguing.

“Eubank would be the perfect scenario, because he is a self-promoter who stirs the pot. Gennady is so respectful that sometimes it helps to have a brash opponent. Curtis Stevens did it but crossed the line – that’s that Eastern Bloc mentality,” Loeffler said.
Stevens sure paid for it.
Loeffler also mentioned Andy Lee as a possibility, as well as rising star James DeGale.
