Clippers superstar Blake Griffin is expected to miss the next four to six weeks with a broken hand that he suffered punching a Clippers staffer named Matias Testi. Griffin and Testi are more than just co-workers, however. The two go back several years, and have been characterized as “good friends,” by several sources.

The incident happened in a Toronto restaurant, where Griffin allegedly hit Testi, who left the restaurant, only to be followed by Griffin and punched more. There has been some speculation that Griffin’s outburst may have been alcohol-fueled, but Clippers coach Doc Rivers told reporters he does not believe that’s the case.

"They're grown men. They're at the legal age that they can have a drink but I dont think honestly alcohol had anything to do with this,” Rivers said.
So what gives? The Clippers are investigating what happened -- Toronto police have no reports of a fight involving Testi or Griffin – but the best guess is that one of them took some joking too far and the situation escalated.

Testi is known to “routinely banter” with Griffin, per Sam Amick of USA Today. The explanation may be as simple as Griffin or Testi saying the wrong thing, and the whole situation turning physical. More will come out as the incident is investigated, but Griffin can expect consequences.
Rivers said he thinks the four-to-six week timetable is optimistic, and the organization implied in a statement that they plan to take action against Griffin for the incident. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and Rivers released a statement in which they announced they’re looking into the fight with help from the NBA.
"This conduct has no place in our organization and this incident does not represent who we are as a team," the statement said. "We are conducting a full investigation with assistance from the NBA. At the conclusion of the investigation, appropriate action will be taken."
