Frankie Edgar continues to wait on the official word on whether he will be Conor McGregor’s next opponent for the UFC featherweight title, though the announcement seems pretty imminent.

With the UFC seemingly more inclined to line him up against the Notorious next, all Edgar has to do right now is wait for the go-signal. But that could take a while.

The Irishman is set to return to the Octagon in March, but in the lightweight division. He will test his mettle against UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197, where a win will place him in the record books for holding titles in two separate divisions.

Edgar believes that McGregor made a wise move.

Rafael dos Anjos Gets Taste of Irishman's Trash Talk

“I think Conor played the smart move, he played the business move," Edgar said via Fox Sports. "You can’t blame him for that, it just sucks that it’s at my expense and now I’m in limbo since I was supposed to get that next title shot. If he stuck around and lost to me, he has no option to go up to 155."

A move to a different division would normally call for the champion to vacate his title. but McGregor has been made an exception.

Either way, McGregor did take the safer route, which Edgar says was a wise one via MMA Frenzy. And for that he is put on hold.

There is no official word yet from the UFC if Edgar would be lined up next since Jose Aldo is still looming in the background. Either way, the best that Edgar can do right now is prepare and train for whatever comes his way.
