Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s retirement from boxing has been scoffed at since he announced he was calling it quits last September, but his latest boast about his financial state, if true, may give his retirement some credence.
“I will make seven figures a month for the rest of my life. I’ve made some very smart investments and I’m living very comfortably, my children are going to school and will be going to college soon, and that’s what is most important to me right now. I’m just blessed way beyond belief,” Mayweather told TalkSport.
Manny Pacquiao Should Have Borrowed One Of Mayweather's Techniques
So how in the world is he still making that kind of dough? SWN can only guess. These are three ways Mayweather is still getting that paper.
Gambling
“Money” is a well-known, high-stakes gambler. The man lives in the MGM Grand! Mayweather isn’t shy about posting his ample winnings, so that could be a nice boost to his bottom line.
Of course he’s not going to advertise his big losses, which may even outnumber his victories. But all we can see are dollar signs, so we have no choice but to assume he’s stacking chips.
Endorsements
Mayweather became the richest athlete in the world through fighting, and eventually negotiating a massive, one-of-a-kind revenue-sharing contract with Showtime. He did it all without the help of endorsements though, the likes of which account for most athletes’ money. LeBron James, Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan all made far more money from Nike than they ever did from sports.
Mayweather was the opposite, but now, he’s secured deals with Hublot, Fanduel, and Burger King according to Forbes. That’s a lot of money for “Money.”
Royalties From Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber is pretty much the current King of Pop … and he should thank Mayweather for keeping him relevant. When Bieber hit his roughest patches, attention stayed on him because he was bizarrely always present with Mayweather for his ring entrances.
Once he was even joined in Money’s entourage by WWE superstar Triple H. What?!?! Bieber needs to be eternally grateful for Mayweather, and may be expressing that gratitude through monthly payments.
