Reports indicate that the following was taped Tuesday night for the WWE SmackDown episode set to air this Friday, Oct. 18 from Kansas City, Missouri as WWE builds towards the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event on Sunday, Oct. 27 nine nights from this air date.
In the main event of the evening, Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes and Goldust defeated The Shield in six-man tag action after Bryan hit Ambrose with the flying knee. The match was made in the opening segment of the show when Vickie Guerrero and Brad Maddox came out to discuss the Big Show, and Daniel Bryan interrupted. Big Show's music then hit, but he didn't come out and Guerrero and Maddox announced that he was banned from the arena for what he did at the end of Monday Night RAW. Cody Rhodes and Goldust, the new WWE Tag Team Champions, came out and Vickie announced the six-man main event tag match.
Guerrero and Maddox were featured in another high-profile segment as well on the show when the Big Show came out through the crowd and came in the ring to announce that he's filed a lawsuit against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. That prompted Guerrero and Maddox to come out and confront Show, and he said he had nothing left to lose so he nailed Maddox with the knockout punch.
Elsewhere on the program, CM Punk defeated Big E Langston. After the match, Ryback and Curtis Axel came out and attacked Punk, but he was saved by Big E from a beat down.
John Cena's return at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view was further hyped when World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio had an interview with Josh Matthews in the ring, and Cena appeared on the big screen which upset Del Rio to the point where he took Matthews out with the cross armbreaker.
In other action, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan defeated the Miz and Kofi Kingston in a tag match, which Bray Wyatt watched ringside from his rocking chair. Harper and Rowan won when Harper hit Kingston with a lariat. Elsewhere, the Usos defeated Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro after Los Matadores came out with El Torito and distracted the Real Americans.
In divas action, Brie Bella defeated AJ Lee in a non-title match after Lee was distacted by Tamina and Nikki Bella fighting on the outside.
SmackDown furthered the Big Show storyline while also continuing the feud between Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes, Goldust and the Authority. Randy Orton, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were noticeably missing from the program, but the Shield was there to further that feud. The WWE also continued to hype the return of Cena for Hell in a Cell.
