Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo believes that he is in line for an immediate rematch despite losing to Conor McGregor in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 last December.

For Aldo, there was no fight that took place. He stresses that McGregor landed a well-timed and lucky punch that knocked him out, though he says that the only mistake he made was that he did not protect himself after letting out a jab.

But in all, he claims that his approach was technically sound and that it would be only understood by people who are into boxing.

“It was a safe attack, a simple attack that I had been doing, that everyone does against a southpaw," Aldo told MMA Junkie. "He deserves credit. I messed up. I think my hand didn’t come back to the right place."

Right now, all he wants is to get a chance to vindicate that loss, though that may have to wait. Frankie Edgar has been tagged as the next opponent for McGregor. Edgar is also waiting in the wings since "The Notorious" will be getting a taste of lightweight life when he goes up against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 this March.

With that on the table, Aldo will be waiting as well. Will he be open to fighting someone else for the meantime?

“As far as the next step," Portal do Vale Tudo. "I see no other fight, and I won’t accept another fight unless it’s for the belt."
