Any hopes you had of seeing Kobe Bryant represent the United States in Rio for the 2016 Olympics went out the window on Saturday. Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters dropped the news.
Kobe Bryant Would Sell His Friends For Another Ring
Kobe Bryant no longer leaving the door open for playing in the 2016 Olympics, says he'd rather "support the players from afar."

Not that you can blame Bryant. He won two gold medals in 2008 (Beijing) and 2012 (London). He even added a gold medal at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship. A Laker at heart, it all boiled down to one reason for the five-time champion.
Kobe Bryant Should Work For A Rick Fox
Kobe said he wants his final game to be in Lakers purple and gold, which will be against Utah at Staples Center in April, not for Team USA.

Kobe just said he's not going to play in the Olympics: "I think it's the young guys' turn to go and play and perform."
— Mike Trudell (@LakersReporter) January 17, 2016
Kobe had previously left the door open to playing in Brazil in the Olmypics, but he just shut it. Time for the younger guys to shine.

With that resolved, there was still a question as to whether Bryant will take time off to heal a sore right Achilles’ tendon injury. Even that was answered on Saturday.
Kobe said he won't be taking two weeks off - he's going to continue to try and play through minor injuries. Important to him he's on court.

Only 41 games remain in his illustrious career. It’s easy to see why remaining on the court is of great significance to him.
