TMZ is reporting troubled free agent forward Lamar Odom recently met with Los Angeles Lakers team officials about a possible return to the team.
The website reports Odom met with team officials on Monday and characterized talks as "going well," though no contracts were signed or deals brokered. TMZ added the 33-year-old Odom let it be known that returning to the Lakers has always been his first preference.
The prospect of that seemed little more than a pipedream just a month or so ago, a time when the veteran forward was still be dogged by widespread reports of "hardcore" drug abuse and discord in his marriage to reality TV star Khloe Kardashian.
Though Odom and the 29-year-old Kardashian still appear to be separated and perhaps even headed for divorce court, TMZ recently reported Odom now claims to be drug-free and intent on reigniting his career.
Through it all, Odom has insisted he didn't need rehab and was capable of overcoming any drug addiction he might be suffering from on his own terms. Odom previously played seven seasons with the Lakers, earning Sixth Man of the Year honors during the 2010-11 season when he averaged 14 points and nine rebounds.
