Canelo Alvarez is rising to new heights, but if wants to fight the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto and even Manny Pacquiao, he needs to loosen up and deal with the reality that not all his demands can prosper.

Alvarez is set to fight this coming May for in Las Vegas, but his official opponent has yet to be named. What Alvarez plans next will be more interesting since it should be against the WBC mandatory challenger, Gennady Golovkin.

According to a report from Boxingscene.com, Alvarez is standing pat on the 155 pounds. catchweight requirement. The call is not likely to hold up and if so, Alvarez could end up vacating the title if he doesn’t fight Golovkin.

Moving on and through a separate report via Boxingscene.com, Alvarez says he is not ruling out other potential matches against Pacquiao or even a rematch with Cotto.

Gennady Golovkin May End Up Full WBC Champion By Default

The one with Pacquiao seems unlikely since the Filipino fighter is all set to hang it up after his April 9 fight with Timothy Bradley Jr.

With regard to Cotto, he stresses that there was no rematch clause for that one. Cotto and Roach claim they were robbed of a win, so a rematch could make a lot of sense.

But that could take a backseat since the people behind Alvarez have other things in mind for the Mexican brawler.

Golovkin is the immediate challenger he has to deal with, but that stubborn stance on the catchweight is likely to spoil it.

Assuming he does pass on Triple G, Alvarez will have to deal with the fact that if he is to reign in the middleweight division, he is ready to fight all the way to 160 lbs –the full middleweight limit.
