The WWE has the ingredients for a lackluster Royal Rumble Match, but the Divas could add a little spice.

To this day, only three women have ever competed in the 30-person elimination match, which began as a yearly tradition in 1988. Chyna (1999), Beth Phoenix (2010) and Karma (2012) are the only three Divas to ever enter the Rumble Match, and though they've had moments of success, none of them made too much of an impact.

WWE Royal Rumble Match Destined For Disaster

The field for this year's Rumble Match is looking weak, but the elimination contest is always a platform for surprises. The WWE could pull out the biggest swerve of all by throwing some Divas into the match.

No woman has ever held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, so adding one or more ladies to the fray automatically adds a compelling storyline. Here are three Divas we'd like to see emerge out of the curtain when the buzzer sounds on Jan. 24 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.:

Candidates To Dethrone Roman Reigns At Royal Rumble

1) Sasha Banks

The WWE Universe has spoken and the "We Want Sasha" chants must be heard. The Diva was reportedly dealing with an injury, but she recently shot down the rumors on Tumblr, so she could be healthy enough to enter the match. "The Boss" has all the elements for being the next big Diva -- in-ring ability, a tremendous character and the looks -- and her breakout moment could come with a surprise Rumble Match appearance.

2) Nikki Bella

Love her or hate her, the longest-reigning Divas Champion in WWE history has improved vastly in the ring and deserves a slot in the free-for-all. Bella has been dealing with an injury, but the WWE has had surprise Superstars return from ailments in the Rumble Match in the past, though they haven't been female. There's a first time for everything and Bella would make for a stunning surprise.

3) Trish Stratus

Bringing back legends is a Rumble Match staple, and if the queen of Stratusfaction enters the arena, it will blow the roof off the place. The seven-time WWE Women's Champion and current Hall of Famer never got a chance to duke it out in the Rumble Match, so she'd make a perfect surprise entrant.
