Jose Aldo had been quietly in the background ever since losing to Conor McGregor back at UFC 194 in just 13 seconds.

Just the same, however, Aldo believes he deserves to get a rematch against the man known as ‘The Notorious.’ But he does have to wait a bit as Frankie Edgar looms to be the next opponent for McGregor for the UFC featherweight title.

But the wait may take some time.

With McGregor set to make his UFC lightweight debut against champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 this March, Aldo as no choice but to stay put for now as reported by The Independent.

With that said, Aldo doesn’t think too highly of the power handed to McGregor. The reigning UFC featherweight champion seems to be calling the shots right now though it is understandable since he is one of the big names the UFC has to offer nowadays.

“When we signed the contract, the intention was that the winner would fight at lightweight, but we would need to abandon the featherweight belt,” says Aldo via the Daily Mirror.

He goes on to add, “That was the plan, that’s what they told us. If we fought at lightweight, win or lose, and then had the opportunity to fight at featherweight again, it would be for the title immediately”.

For all accounts, Aldo would have been in the same predicament but perhaps ending up relinquishing the title.

Compared to McGregor however, everyone knows the drill. He does talk a lot but the thing is he also delivers. That what makes him stand out and such has garnered the backing of the UFC.

Aldo is bound to get that rematch soon so if he is looking for the same treatment, it may be best for him to fulfill that promise he failed to deliver prior to UFC 194 – shut up McGregor even for just one night with a big win.

Will that happen? Only Aldo can answer that. For now, the hype is all about McGregor and he (along with other looming challengers) have to deal with that fact.
