Vikings kicker Blair Walsh is going to go down in the NFL playoffs annals as one of the all-time choke artists. Walsh was set up to kick the Vikings into the NFC Divisional round playoffs; all he had to do was nail a 27-yard field goal, a kick which is now shorter than an extra point.
Walsh made 34 out of 39 attempts this year, and he was perfect (9-of-9) from 20-29 yards. This time, however, Walsh kicked the ball wide left and cost his team an upset victory. Walsh and his holder Jeff Locke clearly never watched Ace Ventura, because on this attempt Locke did not have the laces out.
Blair Walsh's Girlfriend Leaps To His Defense
The moment was completely devastating (Vikings point of view), or one of pure ecstasy (Seahawks point of view). Hear it in real time on the two radio broadcasts to get a sense of the pain and joy.
The Vikings announcer shouts “The season can’t end like that!” while the Seahawks crew crows about it being “Christmas in Minnesota.” Ouch.

It’s hard not to feel for Walsh, who was one of the top kickers in the NFL all season long. After the game he offered no excuses for the kick, even though he could have thrown Locke under the bus for his hold.
