Nothing much has been heard of Miguel Cotto ever since the Puerto Rican lost to Canelo ‘Saul’ Alvarez last May.

Though it would not be surprising to hear that Cotto is still sore and disappointed with that unanimous decision loss, it may only be a matter of time before we see him back in the ring.

There are no official plans right now, though trainer Freddie Roach has started to look at possible opponents. And surprisingly he sees one perfect foe for Cotto – Juan Manuel Marquez via Boxingscene.com.

“El Dinamita” hasn’t been active in the ring since 2014, and has been kept back by recurring knee issues. Despite that, Marquez claims he has not officially retired. So with that in mind, Roach seems to be interested in facing him again if he is up to it.

Marquez is no stranger to Roach, someone he has met with Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao. The last time they met, it wasn’t so pleasant since Marquez won by knocking out the eight-time division champ back in 2012.

"I was thinking of opponents for Miguel Cotto down the line and I think [Marquez] would be a perfect [opponent], Roach told Izquierdazo.com. "That would be a great fight. When a Puerto Rican and a Mexican get together it's always great. I don't think he wants to fight Manny any more, maybe he's done that enough. But Miguel at the right weight, I think it could be a very interesting fight."

But similar to the Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin issue, a possible fight may boil down to the weight. Marquez has fought no higher than 144.5 pounds, but Roach says that Cotto can easily trim down to 147. if needed.

Before considering all those conditions, any possible fight plans can only move once Marquez announces that he is ready to return to the ring.
