The United States men's soccer team beat Jamaica, 2-0, in Kansas City on Friday to secure the top spot in its World Cup qualifying group and gain more momentum as it competes in the World Cup next summer in Brazil.

Yahoo! Sports reports that Graham Zusi and Jozy Altidore ensured that the Americans will finish on top of its qualifying group for the World Cup and clinch its fifth straight home win in the qualification tournament.

Goalkeeper Tim Howard told Yahoo! Sports that: "We are focused and we will stay focused all the way to Brazil. We have got some good momentum, and we want to keep that going. We have made a lot of progress, but we want to keep improving."

The win was impressive as the Americans played without star Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Fabian Johnson and Omar Gonzalez.

Zusi, who plays for Kansas City in the Major League Soccer, made the first goal after sliding home a pass from Alejandro Bedoya 77 minutes into the game. Four minutes after, Altidore scored another goal, a simple tip-in that put the game away and gave the Americans the top seed in the qualifying group.

The American soccer team continues to play well and its continued rise in the world rankings proves it. The team has improved its defense, having denied its opponents of a field goal for the past 535 minutes. The US team now ranks 13th in the world, improving from the disappointing 36th place a year ago.
