Tom Coughlin is Larry Csonka's choice for the head coach vacancy in Miami. Hopefully, no one in the front office is turning to him for advice.

The Hall of Fame FB -- who spent eight seasons with the Dolphins, winning two Super Bowls -- penned his thoughts on his personal blog on Tuesday. For Csonka, Coughlin brings the experience and championship pedigree required to turn around one of the NFL's most irrelevant franchises.

Ryan Tannehill Finally Behaving Like A Franchise QB

"I'm sure some eager offensive or defensive coordinator will jump at the chance to become a head coach in Miami, but the time it takes to put together a winning combination would take too long and could be problematic with so many people involved," he wrote on Larrycsonka.com. "On the other hand, an experienced head coach, such as Coughlin, who has done it before and is current with personnel and what's happening in the League, could and would make it happen much sooner."

"I'm sure the Dolphins will soon have a head coach. My hope is we won't be going through this again in 2 or 3 years!"

Tom Brady Saved A Man's Life Against The Dolphins

Except if the Dolphins hire Coughlin, they will.

At age 70, the former Giants head coach was already the oldest coach in the NFL. Another three years on the sideline would make him the oldest coach in NFL history, surpassing Marv Levy (72) and George Halas (72).

The same cannot be said about Mike Shanahan.

Not that the two-time Super Bowl champion head coach, 63, is drinking from the fountain of youth, but even he would need a decade on the sidelines to match Coughlin's longevity. The Dolphins -- who have one playoff appearance in 14 years -- can use a decade of stability.

It doesn't hurt that Shanahan wanted to draft Ryan Tannehill while with Washington in 2012, either.

Age aside, it's imperative the Dolphins make the right hire in 2016. The team can ill-afford another poor choice on the sidelines.
