Chip Kelly may be a mad genius or just mad coach, but humility doesn't appear to be in his equation.

So despite Marcus Mariota's indirect lobbying for Kelly to come to Tennessee as the Titans new head coach, Kelly may be headed for a one-year hiatus from coaching.

Chip Kelly's Ego Led To His Firing, Eagles Player Says

The only two vacant college coaching jobs for Kelly are Ball State and Texas State, according to SB Nation, and neither job would seem to be big enough for Kelly to show interest.

And Kelly's final meeting with Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, reported by ESPN, puts the former Eagles coach in an unflattering light, which could be a red flags to other owners with coaching vacancies.

"Kelly's attitude also had been on display for Lurie, who sources say was frustrated with the coach's inability to build even cursory personal relationships, from the owner to the players," ESPN reported.

"In other words, as Lurie stated during his news conference Wednesday to explain his Tuesday decision, he already had made up his mind to fire Kelly. There was no real discussion or scenario presented in which Kelly could have saved his job. Kelly's lack of ability to develop interpersonal relationships with the owner, the players and others in the building did not help his cause, even though he is respected as a coach."

Mariota credited Kelly's staff for much of his success and talked about Kelly's NFL success prior to 2015.

"I think he's proven [he can be a winner] the first two years," Mariota said, according to another ESPN article. "I think this past year was tough, he probably didn't have the season that he wanted. But to win 10 games his first two years says a lot about what he's able to do and says a lot about his coaching."

The Titans likely would love to have Kelly serve as an offensive coordinator and help along Mariota's development while bringing in a head coach more owner-friendly. The same could be said for the Cleveland Browns (who have mercurial but talented quarterback Johnny Manziel) if they part with coach Mike Pettine or the Indianapolis Colts (who have Andrew Luck) if they fire coach Chuck Pagano.

There have been no indications that Kelly would be willing to serve as an assistant.

That leaves 2016 as a likely sabbatical for Kelly to go into broadcasting or figure out some other way to repair his damaged reputation.
