Manchester United are in talks with James Rodriguez over a proposed £59 million move to Old Trafford according to the Daily Express, per Fox Sports.
For manager Louis van Gaal -- who is desperate to keep his job -- it would be £59 million well spent.
'Chicharito' Hernandez Is Trolling Manchester United
After returning to the Champions League, 2015 was thought to be the resurgence of England’s most-storied club. Instead, what followed was disappointing result after disappointing result. United were bounced out of the Champions League group stage after a 3-2 loss to Wolfsburg.
A poor string of results leaves the Red Devils in sixth place in the Premier League table, nine points off the top.
A questionable defense was thought to be the weak link in van Gaal’s United, but it’s a lack of goals plaguing the team.
Rodriguez would go a long way in rectifying that. The Colombian international is averaging 3.3 key passes, per WhoScored, more than any other Real Madrid player.
No Manchester United player is averaging more than two. (Juan Mata leads the club with 1.5).
Admittedly, seeing a talent like Rodriguez depart the Santiago Bernabeu is impossible at best, but the friction between he and manager Rafa Benitez creates a slither of hope for van Gaal.
It’s a slither he must take full advantage of if he hopes to remain in charge.
