LeBron James is a professional basketball player in search of his third NBA title, not a politician who’s actually capable of enacting change.

Society needs to remember that.

Steph Curry Closed The Gap On LeBron James

James, who turned 31 on Wednesday, has been asked to sit out games in protest of the grand jury decision involving the death of Tamir Rice. The 12-year-old Ohio native was shot dead in Nov. 2014. The police officers responsible will not be facing charges.

"I caught a little bit of it from my folks on the side saying that you guys might ask me about it, but I have no knowledge," James said, per ESPN. "I'm not much of a social media guy.

"I'm on it, for sure, but I'm not always looking at what's going on in it."

No One Treats The Fans Better Than LeBron James

This isn’t the first time James has been asked to address America’s race war. He -- along with the rest of his teammates -- put their hoods up to show support for Trayvon Martin’s case in 2012.

He also sported an “I Can’t Breathe” t-shirt in support of Eric Garner’s case in 2014.

Now, he’s unfairly being asked to take it a step further -- something he’s well aware of.

“There's been so many more issues that's gone on that I haven't spoken about,” James said. “There's been the San Bernardino massacre, there's been guys going in movie theaters, shooting up movie theaters, there's been other issues. Those are not something that ... I don't have much knowledge of, so I don't speak about it.

“So for me ... if I feel like it's something that I have a lot of knowledge about, [I'll add my voice to the issue] because I don't like to speak when I don't know about it.”

As powerful as we pretend our athletes to be, they’re still only athletes. It’s time for someone in an actual position of power to be forced to enact change instead.
