Alan Pulido sealed his own fate when he transferred to Olympiacos in the summer. His lack of minutes with the Greek club simultaneously kept him from returning to Liga MX and signing with Chivas Guadalajara.

Matias Almeyda -- who was appointed as manager by owner Jorge Vergara during the 2015 Apertura season -- said as much on Tuesday.

Alan Pulido Could Be Teammates With Giovani Dos Santos

"The topic of Pulido was briefly broached and our intentions were clear," Almeyda said, per AM.mx. "We know he's a great player, but he hasn't played in quite some time. Chivas are a big club and not one to recover players. Things would've been different if Pulido had consistent playing time and a preseason.

"I respect Pulido, but it was me who didn't accept his transfer because he's a player who's only played 15 minutes in six months."

Alan Pulido Receiving Offers From MLS

While Almeyda's logic his sound, Chivas' place in the relegation table can ill-afford to look past a player of Pulido's talents.

In his final season with Tigres UANL in 2011, the Mexican international finished with seven goals and one assist in 17 appearances. He also just happened to score the third and final goal in the Apertura final, securing Tigres' first league title in over thirty years.

For Chivas -- a club .24 coefficient points from relegation -- Pulido was the missing piece for safety.
