The Knicks got some potentially great news this week, as head coach Derek Fisher’s divorce is almost in the past. Fisher’s once-nasty divorce has taken a sudden turn for the better, with the coach and his soon-to-be-ex Candace nearing a full settlement, per TMZ.

The report credits Candace’s decision to switch lawyers and hire Lance Spiegel, a high-powered attorney noted for seeking settlements. The increasingly amicable split may have something to do with Fisher trying to eliminate drama from his life so he can focus on coaching the slumping Knicks.

Derek Fisher Should Handle Himself Like A 'Grown Man'

Fisher has one of the best scorers in the league (Carmelo Anthony) and one of the most exciting rookies (Kristaps Porzingis), and yet the team is 4-6 in their last 10 games, and four games below .500.

It’s difficult to imagine the divorce was not a distraction for Fisher, who was involved in a preseason altercation with Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes over Fisher dating Barnes’ ex-wife Gloria Govan.

Fans Heckle Barnes About Gloria Govan

In that incident Barnes drove to Govan’s home after sensing his children were “uncomfortable,” and one of them said “Mommy’s friend Derek is here.” Barnes was suspended Monday for two games in relation to his fight with Fisher. The two were teammates with the Lakers from 2010 to 2012.

Even if Fisher’s divorce ends smoothly, the drama likely won’t stop unless he distances himself from Govan as well. Gloria’s involvement with him will continue to be something that is asked about, and the Govans in general bring trouble. Gloria was on the reality TV show “Basketball Wives,” and her sister Laura has made headlines for her own nasty split with ex-NBA point guard Gilbert Arenas.
