Cam Newton is saying all the right things, including his comments on the NFL MVP.

The Panthers QB -- who is two wins away from an undefeated regular season -- had no qualms dismissing his MVP candidacy. For Newton, it's the collective whole that deserves recognition in Carolina.

Cam Newton's Dancing Is Ruining America

"[The MVP is] irrelevant to me right now," Newton said, per the team's official website. "It's a culmination of guys making plays and [me] feeling comfortable in the pocket. Everybody is doing their job.

"Offensive football is the ultimate team sport. You need all 11 members to do their job."

Cam Newton Is Still A Better Role Model Than Ben Roethlisberger

Admittedly, no player would openly recognize his ambition to be named the game's top player just two games from making history. It's even a sign of maturation from a player who once "humbly" claimed to be a "one-on-one type of person that this league will never see another," per AL.com.

But for Newton -- a player driven to be the greatest -- it's best the award escapes him in 2015.

No player has been named NFL MVP and went on to win the Super Bowl since Kurt Warner in 1999. Peyton Manning was the latest victim in 2014, being shellacked by the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Newton, of course, is capable of breaking the mold, but history isn't working in his favor. He's better off letting Tom Brady worry about the NFL honor while he looks toward his first piece of silverware.
