Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired undefeated and much of that was because he was successful in managing his career. He fought the great fighters at a time when he deemed he was ready for them and everyone knows how that resulted.
With Mayweather now retired, he joins a class of boxers who are approached for insights. Just recently, he shared his views on the whole Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin fight, which was a mandatory match set by the WBC.

As far as he is concerned, Alvarez should shun that fight and look out for his health via Boxing News 24. He believes that it isn't among the things in consideration and believes that Alvarez should fight when he is ready to take on Triple G.
“Canelo just came off a good, exciting victory against a future Hall of Famer, Miguel Cotto, but they're so fast to try and throw this guy right back in the lion's den with another guy that they say is one of the top fighters in boxing. Why is the promoter rushing and trying to throw Canelo right back in there in another rough and tough fight?” Mayweather said via fighthype.com.

From a standpoint, it seems that Mayweather does have a valid reason, but it may not sit well with the WBC and the ones who want the Alvarez vs. Golovkin fight to happen.
Mayweather is someone who had something similar before. It took him some time before agreeing to fight Pacquiao and the “timing” was apparently on cue.
As far as Alvarez is concerned, he curiously gave no timetable in case the Mexican takes him up on his advice of ducking Golovkin at least for now.
Alvarez and company did say that it may take them a couple of years to beef up to the 160 lbs. weight so the Mexican pug could take it from there.
