Adrien “The Problem” Broner is fighting a mostly unknown “Money Team” fighter named Ashley Theophane in his next fight, according to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Broner, however, sounds like he may have a bigger challenge in mind – Manny Pacquiao.

"I hear they want me to fight Pacquiao next. Michael Koncz actually called me. We [are] waiting to hear from him,” Broner said. He also put his name value on par with Pacquiao’s based on the Filipino’s poor showing against Mayweather. Broner conveniently has forgotten his forays into boxing’s upper crust, which resulted in blowout losses vs. Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter.

Broner Calls Mayweather A F**k Boy

Broner said he’d refuse to face Pacquiao in the Philippines, saying “I got a name too. And if you ask me our name is damn near at the same level.”

Pacquiao would be a much more lucrative opportunity for Broner, who has taken much of his persona from his “big bro” Mayweather. Theophane, 35, has a 39-6-1 record with only 11 knockouts. Broner is often criticized for taking on opponents well below his caliber, and Theophane’s record is worse than many of Broner’s hand-picked opponents.

Mayweather's Camp Keeps Dissing Pacquiao, Setting Up A Rematch

Mayweather is the one insisting that Theophane is the right opponent for him.

“Yes, Adrien Broner is fighting Ashley. I do my job. My thing is this; For Christmas, I want to make sure all my fighters are able to do for their family and loved ones. That’s what is important,” Mayweather said per Boxing News 24. The problem is that Broner, while affiliated with Mayweather, is under no obligation to agree. He is not a member of “The Money Team,” and told Fight Hype that he would accept a Pacquiao fight if it’s made available.

”I would love to fight Ashley Theophane, because the buildup to the fight would be so big, but if Pacquiao wants me to be his last fight, then of course I will do it,” Broner told Fighthype.

In a second interview Broner refrained from his typical, offensive bluster, but did talk a little smack about how a Pacquiao fight would turn out.

“I love fighting southpaws, man. Just check my record. He’s a great guy. It would be a hell of a fight [pitting] a young rising star against an elite Hall of Famer on his way out. I can’t wait to send him home to the Philippines to go back to be Governor. You can’t put it past nobody. This is boxing. It only takes one shot.”

Broner’s record suggests he’d be out of his depth vs. Pacquiao, even at this stage of the Filipino’s career. That said, it’s a much better fight than seeing Broner face a 35-year-old journeyman, who would do little to further Broner’s still-promising career.
