Sometimes trying to bring back past success just doesn't work out.

Throughout the years, several nostalgia acts have returned to the WWE only to be a shell of their former selves and taint the great memories they provided fans throughout the years. The reincarnation of ECW stunk, the way-too-late D-Generation X and nWo reunions were lame.

Now, the Hardy Boyz have designs to eventually return to the WWE to allow their careers to come full-circle and end in the very promotion they started.

"I think there's a huge possibility down the road," Jeff Hardy told Ric Flair on his podcast, according to Inside Pulse. "I'm not sure when, but I think both Matt and myself would love to end our careers in the WWE and it'd be super, double great to be able to have a few more good ones with the Dudley Boyz, for sure.

"As far as us returning [to WWE] and having some more matches with them, it all depends on how long they're going to be there and how long it takes us to get there. I mean, but, definitely, it's a possibility. I'm just not sure when right now."

Reasons Why Brock Lesnar Should Win The Rumble Match

The Dudley Boyz returned to the WWE with a bang and received much fanfare in August, but they've quickly fallen down the ranks and have served as fodder for The Wyatt Family as of late. The Hardyz, Dudleyz and Edge & Christian had battles for the ages, especially when they were the first ones to do face-off in the innovative Tables, Ladders & Chairs matches.

As great as those bouts were, they took place in 2000 and 2001, a decade and a half ago at this point. The Dudleyz and Hardyz are in their 40's now, while Edge (neck) and Christian (concussion) stopped actively competing in the ring. While the Hardyz and Dudleyz may bring back some nostalgia, they won't live up to the classic encounters the duos once had.

Jeff, who hasn't been in the WWE since 2009, is currently dealing with a knee injury and has said he needs to tone down his in-ring style, which takes his daredevil, unpredictable style out of a hypothetical match with the Dudley Boyz. Matt, meanwhile, has always been the tamer of the two, and was unceremoniously released by the WWE in 2010.

While in theory one final match between two legendary teams would be cool to see, nothing would ever live up to the classics these tandems put on in the early 2000s, so why bother trying at all?
