Ronda Rousey has been feeling the sting of defeat, and also the harsh side of celebrity since she was knocked out in shocking fashion by Holly Holm at UFC 193. Holm, a decorated boxer but an unproven mixed martial artist, was a heavy underdog vs. Rousey, but used her superior boxing and kickboxing skills to stun the world.

Former UFC heavyweight champion, and Expendables 3 co-star of Rousey, said that Holm served her “humble pie.” Unlike the nasty critiques of Rousey online, or vicious jabs about perceived weight gain, Couture’s criticism came from an MMA standpoint.

“I think, you know, there are occasions where we all kind of need some humble pie and that's probably where Ronda is sitting right now,” Couture told MMA Fighting.

"It's purely a function of focus and gameplan. I think after knocking her last opponent out she was maybe a little over confident with her striking and didn't give Holly the credit she deserved as a world-class boxer and kick boxer. She went out and tried to strike with [Holm] and paid the price with an elusive southpaw with a great jab that just kept tagging her.”

Twitter Trolls Mock Rousey's Perceived Weight Gain

Couture remained respectful, where as others danced on the grave of Rousey’s perfect record. Her rivals Miesha Tate and Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino were ruthless in the immediate aftermath.

“F**k her and her ‘Nobody has the right to beat me.’ Nobody has the right to beat you? Well you just got beat, b***h. … Anyways, I’m proud of Holly. She had a perfect, flawless game plan. She came in with it (Saturday) and now she is the champion,” Tate said to MMA News Source (via MMA Junkie).

Cyborg didn’t even need words.

Then there was this mean-spirited attack on her as she simply walked her dog.

Brutal! Rousey is just going to have to bear it until she gets her rematch with Holm, which is tentatively scheduled for July 2016. Perhaps she will heed Couture’s advice and not try to strike with a striker again.
