It looks like the Dodgers could've afforded Zack Greinke, after all.

Los Angeles backed out of a three-year, $45 million deal with Mariners right-handed pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma, and he re-signed with Seattle, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Offseason Inactivity Leaves Dodgers As Third Best In NL West

As a result, the Dodgers' offseason moves officially consist of signing utility infielder Chase Utley for $7 million for 2016, having pitcher Brett Anderson accept a qualifying offer of $15.8 million and acquiring three minor league prospects, Thecomeback.com reported.

Dodgers fans all would agree that they would much rather have Greinke than the power trio of Iwakuma, Anderson and Utley (who batted. 208 with the Dodgers in nearly half a season, but did exhibit his willingness to win by breaking the leg of Mets second baseman Ruben Tejada on a hard slide in the NLDS).

Yasiel Puig Announces He's Staying In Los Angeles With Hollywood Billboard

Add the 2015 contract of reliever Aroldis Chapman -- he made $8 million in 2015 --- who was to come over to Los Angeles in another trade that fell through because of a domestic violence charge against him, and the Dodgers have an extra $45.8 million for 2016, not counting the other $30 million for the additional two years for Iwakuma.

Greinke signed a six-year deal with the Diamondbacks for $206 million. According to another Los Angeles Times report, the Dodgers offered a five-year deal worth "close to $160 million" that the newspaper claims Greinke was close to signing before Arizona swooped in.

Add the $45.8 million to the Dodgers' offer of close to $160 million, and suddenly they have nearly $205.8 million to spend on Greinke.

The Dodgers are believed to be pursuing Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, which is why they acquired the three prospects from the White Sox, the Times reported.

But if that deal falls through( and with the offseason the Dodgers have had, why wouldn't it?), L.A. fans will be left with only the hope than new manager Dave Roberts is a miracle worker.
