If you needed any proof that the Copa America Centenario was a money-grab tournament, the organizers provided it on Thursday.
Group seeds and game dates for next summer’s tournament were officially announced, via CONCACAF. Argentina -- the highest FIFA-ranked nation in the Americas -- will be seeded top of Group D. Brazil were awarded Group B.
Big Clubs Chicharito Should Consider Joining In January
The credibility of the tournament ended there.
It was also announced that -- as the host nation -- the United States earns the Group A seed. Mexico, “in celebration of the rich soccer tradition of the hemisphere,” will head Group C.

Fouling Arjen Robben in the box and failing to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup for the umpteenth time? Or is it a rich soccer tradition of being gifted the 2015 Gold Cup by officials?
In reality, all it is is a rich soccer tradition of making CONCACAF money by packing stadiums by the tens of thousands.
As for the United States, while it is true that host nations have a right to be seeded in a tournament, no one cares about this host nation. This isn’t the Gold Cup, this is Copa America.
Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil will all be in attendance. No one’s paying money to see Michael Bradley underwhelm in another tournament when Lionel Messi, Neymar, Alexis Sanchez and James Rodriguez will be in town.
Speaking of Chile, how are the defending tournament champions not seeded? Apparently, not even that is enough to warrant the respect from tournament organizers.
Ironic when you consider this tournament no longer warrants respect from the fans.
