John Calipari was honored by UMass basketball on Wednesday, complete with a misleading banner.
The Kentucky basketball coach had his name and UMass career win total up high in the Mullins Center. His "193" total was embroidered under glass, while another towered high alongside Al Skinner, Julius Erving and others.
John Calipari Didn't Think Dirk Nowitzki Was Good Enough
Unbelievable night. Ellen and I can't thank everyone enough for the memories. Tonight was the celebration of an era pic.twitter.com/2DEb3GlVRQ

There's only one problem: Calipari didn't win 193 games at UMass. Not according to the NCAA.
As significant as "193" is in Calipari's heart, it includes a run to the Final Four in 1996 later vacated by the NCAA. Camby had already turned professional while still playing under him -- hiring agents, receiving cash and the services of prostitutes, per the Boston Globe.
Kentucky Not The Favorites To Win Men's Championship
Camby -- along with three other teammates -- were even able to play while under academic probation, bringing a few more of those 193 wins into question.
So many great memories from the 90s at this place. pic.twitter.com/EAPqk7t85X

Then again, this is UMass.
Camby's number is retired. Calipari has a misleading banner. Nothing is off limits for an irrelevant basketball program to recapture its 15 minutes of fame.
