Boxing News 2015: Freddie Roach Hails Floyd Mayweather Jr. As King Of This Boxing Era [VIDEO]

Legendary trainer Freddie Roach has been known to think lowly of Floyd Mayweather Jr., but it seems he has finally conceded to the undefeated American boxer’s contribution to the sport.

Roach made the admission via BoxingScene.com, admitting that his record makes him the king of the current era mainly because he left the sport undefeated.

The admission comes as a bit of a surprise considering Roach, who trains Manny Pacquiao, had always criticized Mayweather because of his boring style in the ring.

However, he did point out that both Manny and Floyd did face great and worthy opponents. The difference was that Mayweather never got a loss, while his boy has six defeats in his career.

“Manny had eight world titles and a lot of great opponents and so forth. Mayweather had the same, had a great career and [was] undefeated, so I guess we're going to have to give it to Mayweather -- but Manny was a lot more exciting for the fans. Mayweather had no losses and so forth, so he's probably the king of this era,” Roach said.

Both Mayweather and Pacquiao faced off last May and the American boxer outboxed Pacquiao. Though the Filipino claims he was fighting with an injured shoulder, not too many believe the outcome would have been different.

Despite many believing his last fight was a waste, Mayweather retired after unsurprisingly dominating Andre Berto last September. Pacquiao is expected to fight again April 9, against a yet to be named opponent.

There are just two names in the mix right now -- Timothy Bradley Jr. and Terence Crawford. Pacquiao was originally set to name his opponent last week but opted to save if for early 2016.
