Cowboys fans can't get mad at coach Jason Garrett for not playing quarterback Kellen Moore. Yet.

Garrett still has a legitimate reason for trying to make his current offense work -- Dallas and its 4-9 record still has a chance to win the NFC East, according to For the Win.

DeMarco Murray May Be Trying To Force Return To Cowboys

And it's actually more than a prayer -- at least concerning the teams ahead of the Cowboys.

Dallas has three games left on its schedule -- vs. the Jets at home, on the road against the Bills and at home against the Redskins. Counting on a 4-9 team to win its three remaining games is a bit unrealistic, but it's not out of the question.

Jerry Jones' Criticism Of Jason Garrett Suggests Cowboys Coach's Job Not Safe

The Bills just lost at the Eagles on Sunday, the Jets are up and down (despite their dominance of the Titans in Week 14) and the Cowboys beat the Redskins in Washington last week.

Obviously, if any of the three teams ahead of the Cowboys -- the Redskins and Eagles are 6-7 and the Giants 5-7 going into Monday night's game at Miami -- wins eight games, Jerry Jones' boys are finished. However, if none of the other teams gets to .500 by season's end, a seven-win Dallas team would emerge as division champions.

In addition to the Dolphins, the Giants still must play host to the unbeaten Panthers, visit the Vikings and host the Eagles. The Redskins still play at home against the Bills, then travel to the Eagles and Cowboys. The Eagles host the Cardinals and the Redskins and finish at the Giants.

The Cowboys hold all the tiebreakers, according to For the Win, and would win the NFC East with a 7-9 record if no other team is 8-8.

Former Cowboys coach-turned NFL analyst Jimmy Johnson said Dallas has to determine whether Moore "can play at all" during Fox's postgame show, according to The Dallas Morning News.

But that may not happen until Week 16, at the earliest.
