Survivor pools are fun, and they seem easy, but it’s actually very hard to last longer than a few weeks. For those who have never done a survivor pool, the rules are simple. Each week you pick one team to win outright -- usually, survivor pools do not use spreads. Once you’ve picked that team, they’re unavailable to you for the rest of the season.
These are three picks that will keep you alive.

The Sure Thing: Patriots over TEXANS
Chances are if you’re still alive at this point, or if your pool hasn’t been decided, the Patriots are off the table. If not, however, roll with the Pats even though they’ve lost two straight games, because you can bet the house Bill Belichick and Tom Brady aren’t losing three in a row.
They will make the necessary adjustments in terms of protecting Brady, and they caught a bit of a break with J.J. Watt breaking his hand. Watt’s a monster, but there’s no way that doesn’t affect him negatively. Brady is going to keep the drops short, and the Texans won’t be able to hang with Danny Amendola, so expect New England to cruise.

The Next Best Thing: Giants over DOLPHINS
The G-Men are still alive in the playoff hunt despite their 5-7 record, and the Dolphins are a perfect antidote for what ails them. Ndamukong Suh could be a major problem for the Giants’ depleted offensive line, but he’s their only threat. Besides him, Miami’s defense is weak all over. In a desperate situation, few QBs step up more regularly than Eli Manning, and he’s got arguably the best receiver in football, Odell Beckham, in his arsenal and on a hot streak.
The Giants badly need this game, and being on the road isn’t a factor when the trip is to South Beach.
If You Want To Get Cute: Lions over RAMS
The Lions had won three straight games before dropping the Thursday Night tilt to the Packers in the most excruciating way possible. This is a team that’s playing pretty solid football these days, while the Rams are a raging dumpster fire.
Calvin Johnson has rediscovered his form and chemistry with Matthew Stafford while the Lions’ defense has been hypnotized into thinking they have Suh and Nick Fairley back on their defensive line. St. Louis has officially lost DE Robert Quinn for the rest of the year, but mentally they’ve been on vacation for weeks.
