Tonight at 7 p.m. PT UFC’s next budding women’s star Paige “12 Gauge” VanZant (6-1) will headline UFC Fight Night on UFC Fight Pass against Rose “Thug” Namajunas (4-2), in a card which can be live streamed by clicking this link.
VanZant is viewed by some as the next Ronda Rousey, not only because of her looks, but because of her aggressive style. VanZant lands five strikes per minute compared with Namajunas’ two, and connects at a 60 percent clip. VanZant, just 21 years old, knows that a win tonight could propel her to a title shot in the near future.
Paige VanZant Can Be The UFC's Next Ronda Rousey
“I don't know, I listen to the UFC, I listen to my manager, and I let the cards unfold. Right now this is a perfect fight for me, and I'm going to focus on my fight. But obviously after beating someone ranked No. 3, there's not very many people above them to get to the champ." That champion is not Holly Holm, the woman who shocked the world by knocking Rousey out cold.
VanZant fights in the women’s strawweight division, where Joanna Jedrzeczyk (11-0) reigns supreme. She made it clear that the comparisons to Rousey, a full weight class above her, are not being generated by her.
It's an honor to be compared to her still, but I definitely want to create my own footsteps. We're very different people and very different athletes. We fight different, and we're different outside of the Octagon as well. So I definitely want to create my own footprint, my own path, and my own image in the UFC."
Namajunas wants to do the same, and will likely try to do it with a rear-naked choke, the method she has used to win 100 percent of her fights.
Prediction: VanZant def. Namajunas by TKO (Round 2)
