The Browns and 49ers have been in big-name trade discussions before.

Now, each franchise is saddled with quarterback drama and could be looking to make some changes at the position. Colin Kaepernick for Johnny Manziel?

Could that include coming together for trade discussions again?

Cleveland was one of the destinations mentioned as a landing spot for embattled 49ers starter Kaepernick in an article on Sportsnaut.

49ers Coach Jim Tomsula Excited Over Benched QB Colin Kaepernick's Future

"After what looks to be another failing season, the Browns could benefit by adding Kaepernick to the team and trading Manziel in the offseason," Sportsnaut indicated. "Kaepernick, with his mobility - a trait the Browns liked when they drafted Manziel - would arrive baggage-free and with a far superior work ethic. For these reasons alone, the Cleveland brass would be less stressed-out rather than always worrying about what stunt Manziel is going to pull next to embarrass the organization."

San Francisco first has to ensure that Kaepernick is healthy before April 1, 2016, or else he is guaranteed money from the team. Otherwise, the 49ers can get out of a paying him the remainder of a seven-year, $126 million contract that includes a $9.36 million base salary in 2016, according to ESPN.

The 49ers appear to be in rebuild mode after putting their embattled quarterback on injured reserve and sending him to have surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. Their rebuilding mode really started when coach Jim Harbaugh left after the 2014 season.

The Browns and 49ers engaged in trade talks for Cleveland to acquire Harbaugh before the 2014 season, leading to Harbaugh's eventual exit from San Francisco. Manziel, meanwhile, has lost the trust of the Browns coaching staff after lying to the team about how recent videos of him partying were taken.

Cleveland will start Austin Davis this week, instead of Manziel, to replace Josh McCown, who's out for the year. Manziel can inject a similar spark in San Francisco as the one Kaepernick did when he took over for injured Alex Smith in 2012.

Johnny Football looked like an NFL quarterback in the Browns' loss to the Steelers during his last start in week 11.

Meanwhile, the Browns coaching staff, who helped develop Manziel, also could help develop Kaepernick into the player he was in 2012-13.

It could be a win-win situation for both franchises.
