If 2 plus 2 equals 4, then Zack Greinke should be in a Dodgers uniform in 2016.

The Dodgers are the favorites to sign Greinke, Larry Brown Sports reported, via a tweet from USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

Giants In Position To Drive Up Zack Greinke's Asking Price To Dodgers

A decision is expected this week, Nightengale said.

The Dodgers must pay a record $43.7 million luxury tax penalty after spending $298.3 million in 2015, which is an MLB record, according to USA Today Sports. But signing Greinke is foremost on their wish list.

With David Price having signed with the Red Sox earlier in the week, Los Angeles would literally face an embarrassment of riches by paying the luxury tax and then watching its former ace sign with its bitter NL West rival in San Francisco.

"We all want him back," Dodgers minority owner -- and former Lakers legend -- Magic Johnson said to the Los Angeles Times.

"He is our priority -- our No. 1 priority in the off-season," Johnson said. "We are going to put in our bid, just like I'm sure other teams will. He's our priority. We like that 1-2 punch that we have with him and Clayton [Kershaw].

"So we have a lot of resources, yes, and we are using those resources to make our team better."

Greinke went 19-3 with a 1.66 earned run average in 2015 -- the lowest ERA in the majors among starters in 20 years. But Greinke, who turned 32 in October, will be 38 in the last year of his contract if he signs a six-year deal that figures to surpass the $31 million annually that Price is getting in Boston. The Dodgers are presumed to have deeper pockets than the Giants.

Other than Kershaw, the rest of the Dodgers' potential 2016 rotation - Brett Anderson, Alex Wood, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Mike Bolsinger, Carlos Frias and Brandon McCarthy - do nothing to suggest that Los Angeles can go farther in the playoffs than last season.

With new manager Dave Roberts coming in, L.A. would need a heckuva backup plan to let Greinke go to San Francisco.
