Factions have been a staple of professional wrestling throughout the years with leagues of Superstars banding together to form a cohesive unit against the rest of the company.

Stables are a lost art in wrestling these days, but the WWE finally started fixing that problem this past week on RAW. The company revealed that the group of WWE World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus, United States Champion Alberto Del Rio, King Barrett and Rusev will now be known as The League of Nations.

Kevin Owens vs. Brock Lesnar Is Best For Business

The stable represents a fearsome foursome, but how do they stack up against wrestling's greatest factions of all time? Here are our 10 best groups in wrestling history.

Honorable Mention: The Freebirds.

WWE Screwed When John Cena Retires

10) The Shield

Though their reign was short lived, the trio of Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins wreaked havoc on the WWE roster. The three Superstars made their debut at Survivor Series in 2012 and remained together until June of 2014, leaving their mark on sports entertainment.

9) Nation of Domination

This Attitude Era stable was very strong under the guidance of Faarooq and reached another level when The Rock came in and took over. Past members of the Nation included D'Lo Brown, Mark Henry, Kama and even the late Owen Hart.

8) The Ministry of Darkness

The Undertaker has always been an imposing figure, but perhaps he was never more intimidating than when he led his satanic ministry and "crucified" opponents for sport. There were various members of this group at different points, but when they joined up with the Corporation, it all went downhill.

7) The Heenan Family

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan is the greatest manager ever, and his stable of family members rocked the WWE in the 1980s and early '90s. Heenan had a who's who of clientele, including Andre the Giant, Mr. Perfect and "Ravishing" Rick Rude, and his group won multiple championships throughout the years. As the patriarch Heenan once said, "You listen to me, you go to the top. You don't listen to me, you're never heard from again."

6) Evolution

This stable was all about the past (Ric Flair), present (Triple H) and future (Randy Orton and Batista) of professional wrestling. Perhaps the greatest moment for this quartet was when all four members held every RAW brand title at the end of Armageddon in 2003.

5) The Corporation

At the height of the Attitude Era, there was just no crossing the boss as Vince McMahon had his very own stable of midcarders, which included The Big Boss Man, Kane, Ken Shamrock, Test and others. During McMahon's legendary feud with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, he threw his corporation at the "Texas Rattlesnake" time and time again. More times than not, Austin bested the boss, especially when he feigned being the next coporate pet.

4) Hart Foundation

In 1997, Bret "Hitman" Hart put the troubles he had with his brother Owen aside and they paired up with their brothers-in-law "The British" Bulldog Davey Boy Smith and Jim "Anvil" Neidhart as well as Brian Pillman to form the Hart Foundation. The group was unique as it was loathed in the United States, yet revered in Canada. The Hart Foundation was truly awesome, but a memorabe "screwjob" led to their downfall.

3) D-Generation X

The most influential clique in WWE was D-Generation X as their raunchy antics and raw attitudes fit right in with the Attitude Era and eventually helped the company unseat WCW as the No. 1 promotion in the world. The group started as a trio led by Shawn Michaels, but after he left, Triple H took over and ran it with Chyna, X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws. We'll just forget about all the ill-fated PG reunions that happened after the Attitude Era.

2) New World Order

The nWo was one of the most ingenious creations in wrestling history when it first began with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash showing up as "outsiders." Then, in July 1997, Hulk Hogan's revolutionary heel turn changed the game for good. The trio engaged in a hostile takeover of WCW, but ultimately took over WWE in the ratings war. Unfortunately, the nWo eventually grew sour with nearly the whole company joining the ranks, spoiling what in the beginning was a tremendous idea.

1) The Four Horsemen

No faction is better than the Four Horsemen, which is why the entire stable is in the WWE Hall of Fame. Spearheaded by wrestling legend Ric Flair, the most well-known foursome also included Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard and Barry Windham, led of course by J.J. Dillon.
