The breakup between Olivia Culpo and Tim Tebow may not have been because Tebow didn't step up; it could've been because Tebow came on too strong.

A source close to the former Miss Universe claimed that timing was the issue in the couple's breakup, not because Tebow refused to have sex, according to Us Weekly.

"They met at church," the Culpo source told Us, adding that the stars "hung out a few times," and share mutual friends.

"Tim's super into her," a second source told Us when they first started dating. "It's very new, but he thinks she is a goddess. He's very attentive, and writes her sweet notes all the time."

But Culpo wasn't ready to enter into another serious commitment after breaking up with pop star Nick Jonas over the summer. That is where Tebow may have been too aggressive, by asking for a serious commitment.

"He was very into her," the source told Us. "But she just got out of a long-term relationship, and was not interested."

Culpo and Jonas dated for two years before ending their relationship in June.

The reports of Tebow and Culpo breaking up over Tebow's unwillingness to change his religious belief system about premarital sex do seem to be a stretch. Tebow has been outspoken about his Christian beliefs since his days as a college student at the University of Florida, where he won the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore in 2007.

Culpo likely knew what she was getting into. And if she thought she could change Tebow, she has only herself to blame -- especially if they met at church, as Us Weekly suggests.
