The curse of the No. 1 seed continues to plague Liga MX. This time, it's Pumas UNAM who are in danger of succumbing to it.

The club enters the second leg of the Liguilla quarterfinals facing a 1-0 deficit to Veracruz. Fortunately for Pumas, a simple 1-0 victory will see them advance to the semifinals via the higher-seed tiebreaker.

For Veracruz, the next 90 minutes will be a test unlike any other faced this season.

What They're Saying

Pumas UNAM defender Marcelo Alatorre (via Esto): "Of course [the fans will be a big help]. Opposing teams have had difficulty playing in our stadium all season, and that's how it's going to be on Sunday. We are confident we can overturn this deficit. We have proven ourselves in the Liguilla and I don't see why we can't do that now."

Veracruz striker Daniel Villalva (via Esto): "The team was prepared [for Leg 1] and we played a good game. We knew we couldn't concede an away goal. We did things well. We were superior against one of the best teams in the tournament. We proved that on the pitch in our own stadium. Now, we have to hurt them in Mexico City with the same mentality."
