For a moment, the Tyson Fury vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight seemed headed for a disaster when the former threatened to pull out of the bout due to a controversial soft canvas.

Fury was complaining that there was something a bit odd about the canvas over at the Espirt Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany, saying it was too soft per reports from BBC. Fury and his camp demanded that the surface of the ring be changed before the fight could push through.

Saying the canvas felt a lot like a trampoline, the underlay in the ring is now being torn and the canvas being relayed.

Fury’s agent, Asif Vali, eventually announced via Twitter that the fight is still on after two hours. But with the work being done, there could be one undercard shelved for the event.

Apparently there was too much foam used under the canvas, bringing up health and safety issues.

With the fight a go, Fury is looking to end the reign of Klitschko. While Fury is indeed younger, pundits believe that his best chance to win is via ‘shock’ knockout over the 39-year-old Ukrainian champion who has not lost a fight since 2004.

Fury stands to take home £5 million from the fight, while Klitschko will be taking home a larger chunk with close to £15 million coming from the fight purse, sponsorship and PPV shares per reports by the Telegraph.
